austories exists for AU and fan fiction. These rules are what let us keep hosting it.

The short version

What you can post

• Original work. Characters and worlds you created.
• Fandom AU. Stories using characters from anime, games, books, film or television.
• Real-person AU. Stories featuring idols, musicians, streamers or other public figures, subject to the limits below.

Imagery and using other people's work

The safest imagery is your own art, licensed media, an austories avatar, a text description, or a link to a public post rather than a re-uploaded copy of it. A photo or piece of art posted publicly is still owned by whoever made it, so posting it publicly does not make it free to re-use.

• Fan work is welcome, but the imagery can be reported. If you upload a photo or art you do not own and the rights holder sends a valid report, we may remove that panel, image, or series. This is not a judgment on you or your writing.
• Fictionalised names help. They protect you and the subject, and they keep real-person AUs lower risk.

Writing about real people

Real-person fiction is allowed. These limits are absolute, and breaking any of them ends the account immediately. There is no warning and no strike sequence, because none of them are ambiguous:

• No explicit sexual content involving real people. Romance and suggestive scenes are fine, so rate the series Mature. Explicit material is not allowed, in any framing.
• Nothing depicting anyone who was under 18 at the time your story is set. Many performers debut as minors, so if in doubt, age the setting up or do not post it.
• No harassment or targeted cruelty toward the subject or anyone else.
• No private information such as home addresses, phone numbers, family members, workplaces, schools, or travel plans.
• No AI-generated or deepfaked imagery of real people.

Ratings

Ratings describe what is in a story so readers can choose. Tag honestly. Under-tagging to reach a wider audience is treated as breaking the rule you were avoiding.

• General. Suitable for everyone.
• Teen. Mild themes, some language.
• Mature. Romance, suggestive scenes, violence or strong language. This is ordinary AU material and it applies to fan work too, including stories about real people. Use it.

austories does not host explicit sexual content. Mature means suggestive, not explicit. There is no adult tier.

Everyone, everywhere on austories

• No sexual content involving minors, real or fictional, in any form, including text.
• No content that sexualises a real person, as above.
• No harassment, hate speech, or incitement to violence.
• No doxxing or sharing private information.
• No impersonating another creator or claiming their work as your own.
• No spam, scams, or malicious links.
• Tag content warnings honestly. Mistagging to evade a rule is treated as breaking that rule.

Reporting

Every series, episode and comment has a report button. Reports are reviewed by a person. They never remove content automatically, because that would make mass-reporting a weapon. Urgent safety concerns, especially anything involving a minor, go to safety@austories.com and are handled the same day.

Enforcement

For copyright, we operate a strike system. A completed takedown is one strike, 3 active strikes suspends the account, and strikes expire after 12 months.

For the safety rules above, there is no strike sequence. Those accounts are suspended on the first violation.

If you think we got it wrong, reply to the notice you received. We do overturn decisions, and an overturned strike is voided rather than left to expire.
